Chickpea dahl - Margaux Le Gendre

It might be the end of winter but this chickpea dahl recipe is too good not to make it when it’s still a bit chilly outside. The blend of spices will bring you warmth and comfort when you’re dreaming of spring.

Nutritious and Good for the Immune System

A dahl is one of my favourite winter recipes because it’s so easy to make. You throw all the ingredients together in a saucepan, stir from time to time, and just let it simmer.

It’s mainly composed of chickpeas and red lentils, which are a really good source of plant-based protein. For creaminess, we have the coconut milk. And then we add the spices.

Spices can be good for many things, from immune-system boosting to relaxing properties, from blood thinning to sweetening functions. Choose them well, and also check before you use them if you have a condition of any sort.

I use turmeric, ginger and paprika, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effect. I love adding whole coriander seeds, and the taste it gives it when I chew on the small seeds, so fragrant. We’ve got garlic and onion in this recipe for even more of a health boost: anti-fungal, anti-bacterial.

All together, this makes this dish a powerhouse when you feel a cold coming on, winter drags on, or just for a natural boost.

Budget-friendly Chickpea Dahl

Not only is this recipe going to strengthen your immune system, but your wallet health too.

The ingredients you need: chickpeas, chopped tomatoes and coconut milk, all coming from a tin (about 1,50€ each). Red lentils are very affordable too, and spices, probably in your pantry already.

The recipe below will easily feed three-four adults (depending on how much they eat), all for less than 10€. And that is if you have to shop for all ingredients.

Another reason I love this recipe is because I usually have the ingredients in my pantry already and don’t need to buy anything else.

Don’t Think Too Much and Make this Recipe

I can only recommend you try it, and feel the warmth, the exotic tastes, the high protein recipe that will keep you feel full for longer.
