A Special Smoothie for your Hormones?

Looking after your hormones is sort of a compulsory step when you are promoting your health. Your hormones have a major role to play in you feel, how you look, how you interact with others, etc. 

When I talk about hormones I mean the reproductive ones, like oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone. We have the ones related to stress: cortisol and adrenaline. There is insulin produced by the pancreas, which regulates the sugar traffic in your bloodstream. We have the growth hormones, responsible for growth and development, cell regeneration and more. And finally the thyroid glands which are mainly responsible for your metabolism. 

Your hormones are what controls everything going on in your body and drives the different behaviours. 

Ideally, we are thriving towards hormonal balance, when they’re all functioning optimally. And the best way to eat for this balance is to add protein, healthy fats and nutrient-dense carbs to help stabilise blood sugar.

Avocado Smoothie

Cacao Smoothie Recipe

Now onto the good stuff. 

There are many ways that you can address your hormonal balance but this is one of my favourite smoothie combination. 

You will need

1 small ripe avocado for healthy fats and creaminess 

1 large tablespoon of raw cacao powder 

1 table spoon of nut butter (almond or peanut) for fats and protein

1 tablespoon of chia seeds for fibre and protein

1 tablespoon of chocolate vegan protein powder, which is optional here

1 tablespoon of hemp seeds for more protein

1 cup of almond milk, unsweetened

1 tablespoon of maple syrup to sweeten the deal

A handful of ice cubes

A pinch of salt, to enhance sweetness

Blend it all together until really creamy, and you have yourself a fabulous and healthy chocolate smoothie.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 small ripe avocado
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp nut butter (almond or peanut)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 serving chocolate vegan protein powder optional
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 handful of ice

Instructions
 

  • Blend all the ingredients in a blender until it's really smooth and creamy.
